Almost four

I know we all say it but it is truly incredible that next weekend my only child will be 4.  It is amazing to watch this little person grow.  She certainly has lots of personality and loves to keep us on our toes.  I love when she gets all excited and brings her little hands to her mouth and giggles.  She brings so much joy to our lives and if you know her, you know she loves colour.  The brighter the better in her mind.   She is unbelievably excited to be turning 4 and while I could stand to keep her 3 forever, her excitement to be a big girl is so fun to see.  I thought since she is such a colourful child, she should have a colourful birthday to celebrate this new year of her life.  Just showing some sneak peeks of what has been happening in our house this weekend.

I love that you can purchase these pieces at Walmart.  They are perfect for projects.

A black frame we painted hot pink, cut a piece of scrapbook paper to size and use the only alphas I had saved from my stash for this project I knew I would be doing.

Some sprinkles we will use to decorate cupcakes next weekend.

A banner being sewn together.  You may want to take a good look, you won't see a sewing machine in many of my post...hee hee!

take your hat off and make yourself at home

I was introduced to the wonderful world of crochet.  I did knit a little when I was younger but really had an issue with tension.  I decided I should give crocheting a try.  With lots of Tutorial Tuesdays and the help of my good friend, I have now completed several hats.  Here are 3 the last 3 that I have completed.

Please note *I do not have a newborn so most of these pics are using Jujube's dolls.

The newborn aviator

The following 2 are hats that I made following an order I received.  I really hope she likes them.

Recycled crayons

We decided we would do this little craft project.  They are for J's little daycare friends.  It was very inexpensive to do.  The project cost about $3 total and I am sure the kids will love them.

We picked up a box of 64 waxed crayons at Michael's for $1.50.

The paper was well glued to these crayons.  I guess it is to be expected for $1.50 HA!  We decided to soak them in water.  Within 10 minutes we were able to peel the papers off with no difficulties.

I bought some little tin baking hearts at the Dollar store for $1.00.  You may have guessed that part.

Once the crayons were all peeled, I chopped them up.  I used a wooden cutting board with paper towel on top of it and some thick paper.  It worked really well.

The chopped crayons were placed in the tin molds and placed in the oven on 150 degrees for about 20 minutes.

And this is what they looked like when they were done, cooled and out of the tin molds.

J was pretty tickled and must have thought they looked good enough to eat as she had to confirm a couple of times that they weren't for that purpose. HA!

Winter fun

I can't believe I forgot how much fun sliding is.  We headed to the hill yesterday since it was so nice out and since J loves to slide.  We shopped around for a sled and found one.  Unfortunately it didn't work well.  we also picked up a crazy carpet.  If you like winter activities, it is best to shop early as our choices were pretty limited.

As you can see from the pictures, the short crazy carpet would work best for one person.  I finally put J on my lap and then we took off.  Did I mention we ended going down the hill backwards?  Yes, 2 seconds into it and the crazy carpet spun us around.  D said he could hear me laugh all the way down.  Did you know that going down the hill is much more fun than climbing back up?  Yes, it is true.  J was brave and pleaded to go down the hill by herself.  We decided to let her and she loved it.

Hopefully, we can get out again before the winter ends.

What was I supposed to do?

I couldn't just leave it there.

On the search for a mirror today that I could paint, I saw this little store called Wishes as we were driving.  I had never heard of the store but decided we should stop so I could check it out.   Needless to say I  felt like a kid in a candy store when I walked in.  It's the type of store that you have to spend time to actually see all there is.  Here are some of my finds.  I also picked up a little doll bed for Juliana (not pictured).  I will be heading over again next weekend to see what else I can't live without. tee hee.

You will see a lot of this stuff in little photoshoots this summer.

I left the bed post in the picture so you could see the size of the chair.  Isn't it the cutest?  Yes, you could say I have an obsession with chairs. HA!

A little hard suitcase for $9.  I plan on using it as a picnic basket.  Picture it sitting on a white & red checkered table cloth.

More decorative items for $15.  I will use the little glass container for a tea light candle.  I love that it has a lid.

The steal of the day has to be this little metal doll highchair I picked up for $13.50.  I looked on Etsy when I got home and there is one for sale for $50.  I think I got a great deal.  You just don't see them everyday.

a patch, hat, scarf and a winner

Ever have one of those weeks were you felt you didn't get much accomplished but didn't seem to stop?  It was one of those for me.  This evening it is storming and it is a winter wonderland out there.  It's the perfect night to update the blog.

I have a little story to tell....

On Tuesday evening as Juliana was lying in bed trying to fall asleep she noticed one of her stuffy bears had a hole in it.  She didn't call for me to come see instead she just started crying.  We ran to her room to see what was the matter.  This was not a familiar cry. She proceed to tell us that stuffy bear had a hole.  I have never witnessed a little one so heartbroken.  She was truly worried about her bear.  In between tears she hugged and kissed it.  She asked over and over if stuffy would be okay.  I almost shed a tear seeing her in such grief.

When I was able to calm her, I explained that we would put a patch on stuffy the next night.  In the meantime we would put a bandaid on.  She was fine with this.  Bear got a bandaid and within 10 minutes she was asleep.  I somehow escaped the whole "what about a patch for stuffy talk" the following evening.

On Wednesday while she was in the tub, she asked about a patch.  Ugh...a  patch.  Where am I going to get a patch?  I open the closet door and dig out a shirt she has outgrown, run to the kitchen to cut a piece from it.  The last thing I want her to see is me cutting up a shirt.  No good can come from that.   As she is laying in bed that evening, she again asks about the patch and says she wants to see it.  I am sure she wanted to see if I was bluffing...hee hee!  I grab the patch and bring it to her while she is laying in bed and guess what?  She recognizes the shirt (patch) and now starts crying because her shirt is "broken" and why did I cut it.  After she calmed a little, I told her I would pick her up from daycare on Thursday and we would go shopping for a new t-shirt.  She has forgiven me for cutting her shirt and is pretty tickled she got a new one in return.  I can't believe all this and she isn't even 4 yet. HA!

Here is teddy with a hole

All better.  Everyone is happy!

                                                                    The end.

I have finally completed my first real crochet project.  I am really surprised at how much I enjoy it and how relaxing it really is.  Here is a hat and scarf that I made for J.  Notice the little pockets on the scarf.  I am quite proud of them.  Is that wrong? hee hee!

Oh before I forget, the winner of a print is Cathy, Kirsten, Kim and Jenn. Way to go girls!!!  Let me know what you would like.

A little giveaway

Is anyone still out there?  It's been a little while since I have posted.  I have been learning to crochet (yes, it's true) and have been doing little projects.  I will post them in a few days.  I thought we could have a little fun so here goes.  I am sure you probably are aware by now that photoshop and I have a thing going on *blush* so I thought I could do a print for one of my readers.  These are just a couple of samples and the winner can customize what they would like it to say and choose the colours of the letters and background.  If you go a few post down on my blog you will find a couple more samples.  I will send an you an 8x10 that can be framed.

All you have to do is leave a comment and I will announce the winner on Friday evening.

Quiet but good

Nothing to exciting happened with us this weekend.  It was rather quiet which is always a welcomed treat.  Today meant laundry and cleaning in preparation of the upcoming week. I spent quite a bit of time reflecting about things and where I would like to be in 5 years.  It may mean some changes and sacrifices but it will all be worth it if it means happiness at the end of  the line, right?  Anyways, I am sure there will be more to follow in the next little while.

Yesterday, J wanted to do a craft project.  Grandma was over and we decided to make some hearts for Juliana's window.  They act as sun catchers when the sun is out.  It was a fun little project using wax crayons, wax paper and an iron.  I found the project on Martha's site.  It was super easy to do.  There are lots of great projects to do on her site.

I also found this on kijiji (similar to Craigslist I am told) on Friday night for $10.  The gentleman who sold it said it was over 30 years old.  Can you believe it came with the case.  I don't think I will be able to get my hands on some film for it but I will use it for some little photo shoots in the future.
